Hand Print ornamanent
What you need:
red or green construction paper
Glitter (optional)
Clear shelf lining paper
Paper Clips
What to do:
Trace your child's hand on the construction paper and write their name and age on the back.
Cut out the hand shape.
Cut out a square of shelf paper (do not separate yet).
Make sure square is large enough for the hand shape. Separate the square of sticky shelf paper.
Place the hand shape onto one of the sticky squares of the clear shelf paper.
Sprinkle with glitter. (Not too much though or it may cause the sticky paper not to stick well).
Cover the first square of shelf paper with the other square and press together well (push out bubbles). Now the handprint should be sandwiched between two sheets of clear plastic.
Once you have a good seam, cut out the hand shape again, leaving a bit of a margin of the plastic shelf paper.
Open a paper clip and poke through base of hand print and hang on tree!
(Note: We also decorated the hand prints with paint. Take the hand print cut out, place in a shallow box. Take a marble and dip in white paint and roll it around in the box, so it "paints" the hand print with cool lines & designs. Let the hand print dry and continue with project.

Try going to your nearest hobby craft or craft outlet - get glue, scissors, glitter, card, coloured paper, pipe cleaners, sequins - the works!
make your own wreaths
What can you do with old toilet paper tubes? Make a cool Christmas Wreath! Almost all the materials in this projects are recycled things - except for the pom poms, which we had to buy at a craft store.
You will need:
Several cardboard tubes (toilet paper rolls or paper towel tubes)
An old cardboard box, shoebox, cereal box or just a sheet of cardboard backing
Several sheets of newspaper
Red and green paint
Paint brush or sponge brush
Red 1/4" pom poms
Thick craft glue
Stapler
Pencil and scissors
Two plastic lids to trace circles, one big and one small OR
Compass
Cut a strip up the middle of the cardboard tube, lengthwise. Then cut 1" strips crosswise.
Paint the front and back of the strips green.
When the paint is dry, staple the ends of the strips together to make the loops.
Cut a 6" ring with a 3" diameter opening from the cardboard box.
Cut small pieces of newspaper, about 2" x 1 1/2". Staple them to the outside edges of the ring. Paint both sides of the ring and newspaper green.
When the paint is dry, "fringe" the newspaper, cutting from the outside edge to the inside. If you want, you can curl the edges by wrapping them around a pencil and holding for a minute.
Glue the loops to the inside of the ring, like in the picture.
Glue on pom poms.
You can make a bow for your wreath out of a brown paper bag or newspaper. First, cut a strip of paper about 6" long and 2" wide. Paint both sides red. Staple the ends together to make a big loop. Then press the ends together with the other side of the loop to make an "8". Staple once in the middle. Cut another small strip of the bag or newspaper about 2" long and 1" wide. Paint it green or white. Wrap it around the middle of your bow and glue the ends at the back. Then glue it onto your wreath.
MAke A reindeer!
You will need:
Brown paper bags, or brown construction paper
Red, white and black paint
White glue
Trace around the child's shoe on the brown paper. Cut out the foot shape. This is the head of your reindeer, the heel part will be the nose.
Trace around the child's hand and cut out the shape. Fingers should be spread apart. These are the reindeer's antlers. Glue them to the top of your reindeer's head.
Paint two black dots for eyes on the reindeer's face. Paint a big red nose on the bottom of the reindeer face (on the heel).
If desired, paint a tiny white dot on each of the eyes.

Michaels sells packets of beads with soft, flexible beading wire to make "icicles". I have done this activity with two and three year olds. It gives you a chance to show them how to create a pattern, and how to select different shapes. The beads come in several colors, and some really great shapes. Beading also builds hand/eye coordination. And the best part is…there is no way to fail at this…and if she doesn't like the way it looks the first time, just take all the beads off and do it again.
