I agree with …
I agree with vadgeviper….everybody needs to lighten up or shut up.
as an unbiased …
as an unbiased person here, i don’t think dave matthews would ever want anyone to get upset over a song, he certainly wouldn’t want to offend anyone. it’s just a song and one man’s opinion. say what you like, but don’t lose sleep over it. this song is beautiful. i love it. kind of makes me want to cry too though. as for jesus, he as well probably wouldn’t want humans to hate or be infuriated by just a song. especially written by a great man about a great man(:
if you celebrate …
if you celebrate Christmas, then this is what the holiday is about. Celebrating Jesus who was born 12-25. This is why he sings the words as he wrote them. This by no means signifies that all Christians are correct, but he has put to words the thought behind the day. Believe what you believe, and let others do the same. Life is about the love we share and the joy we receive in return. peace and love…
Music is subjective …
Music is subjective…get used to it…
Heathens and …
Heathens and Christians, I am compelled to offend those I deem offensive. But it is true, better to enjoy the music so it unites and not divides us.
WTF??

WTF??
Its a song. A good one at that. Not a ’sign’ for all you believers in the worlds biggest myth to start filling the comments page with all this crap.
How bout we just talk about how brilliant the song is, and ‘THE’ man himself… Dave Mathews.

take it as u will.. …
take it as u will…its an awesome song that means different things 2 different people…Dave is a poet…this song applies 2 all whether Jew, Christian, Agnostic, etc., it applies 2 humanity…Peace, people
We all pick what …
We all pick what makes us feel understood and loved…what resonates with our sense of love and safety. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to feel like there is something bigger out there that gets us and has our backs…what is conflicting is when we use our “God” to pick on or hurt others…what has our backs then isn’t God in the sense that I believe it’s supposed to be…it’s something hurtful and unintended by the teachings of people like Jesus…I say, let there be love for the sake of it
I’m a Christian, …
I’m a Christian, and I love this song. It may be because it is about a man who did EVERYTHING out of love. We all may have different beliefs on what kind of man He is, but I am grateful that He is my friend. Great song by a great band.
“God” the word, …
“God” the word, does not mean much to me, if anything, but i think you are right that the focus of love is in the exaggerated story of Jesus. It just gets to me when people are so offended by not taking a literal interpretation of the bible.
This song has …
This song has absolutely nothing to do with God. Jesus was an amazing man who got screwed! I find it ridiculous how Christianity stripped the Jews of their finest, and blamed them because the Romans killed him. He is a man whose footsteps we should follow in, not live by.
The bible is simply a wonderful metaphor, not a literal explanation. “Eat this bread, think of it as me. Drink this wine and dream it will be the blood of our children all around.”
He is agnostic. He …
He is agnostic. He claims that there is a source of all things but if you give it concern for us, it makes it smaller. He says that God is everything he doesn’t know, but the idea that God looks out for us and takes sides is ridiculous.
If you look at the lyrics, it’s clear that he interprets this simply from a loving point of view. Jesus was just an amazing man who was filled with love. All his miracles were simply mitzvahs or amazing works of love.
Well it hasn’t been …
Well it hasn’t been lost, but it hasn’t exactly been passed on as the main focus. The bible is simply not meant to be interpreted so literally. Jesus was just a man, a great man at that, and filled with love unlike most, but he was not the son of God. He may have had a greater connection with God than most, but he was just a man. Therefore how can we accept him as the only messiah? That can only lead to hatred, whereas we really should focus on how we too can be as loving as he was.
“Ignorance” is not …
“Ignorance” is not educating yourself enough to realize the flaws in a majority of them…
…there is no such thing as equality…
It’s true, the …
It’s true, the story of Jesus Christ has been interpreted in many ways, but I disagree that the underlining theme of “eternal/unconditional love” has ever been lost. The final portion of Jesus’ life wasn’t ugly or hatred filled; it was simply a testament to keep persevering no matter the opposition. Even tortured and crucified, Jesus begged his father for mercy towards his confused siblings, and it wasn’t until he willingly dispatched his spirit that his love in this life ended…
The man was simply …
The man was simply overflowing with love, and he followed his love to help others who could not see everything so clearly. And he did a good job at that until he was killed. Miracles? Maybe just works of love.
This is not …
This is not religious song. It’s a universal song. This song tells the story as true as it has ever been written. WE are the ones who misinterpreted it over so many years. Why can’t we focus on the love in the story and not the hatred at the end?
This is my favorite …
This is my favorite Christmas song, beautiful story and yes I am a Christian and proud of it
